Morningstar Rating

The Morningstar Rating, also known as the star rating, gives investors a quick, top-level assessment of a stock or fund. Since our founding, the Morningstar Rating has been one of our most recognizable signature assets.

For funds and other managed products, the rating is based on historical returns over three, five, and 10 years, adjusted for risk and costs. For stocks, the rating reflects Morningstar’s estimate of fair value, considering financial health and growth potential.

Range

Morningstar Rating range from 1 to 5 star ratings.
Funds and stocks are rated from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the best, based on how well they’ve performed in their category (funds) or fair value estimate (stocks).

Variants

Morningstar Rating in fill variant.

Solid stars represent three or more years of historical performance.

Morningstar Rating in outline variant.

Outlined stars represent less than three years of historical performance; this rating is based on an extended performance calculation.
